The Department of Biotechnology established in the year 1994 is striving towards excellence in teaching and research to meet the global demands for skilled manpower in the industry and academics. The Masters programme offered in the department is an All India National Stream M.Sc. Program, funded and sponsored by DBT, New-Delhi (Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India). The department has a well-equipped bioinformatics facility established with the funding from DBT, Govt of India. The research activities in the department are facilitated by funding from various national and state agencies. The Department has made significant contributions toward scientific advancement and technology development.
Major Outcomes:
- Clonal propagation technology for Vanilla cultivation was developed in the Department and introduced to the farmers by the Spices Board of India and the DBT.
- Technology was developed and patented for cost-effective pesticide production for killing mosquito larvae
- Bioprocess technology was developed to produce Penicillin from rotten fruit waste
